High-Protein Strawberry & Almond Overnight Oats

High-Protein Strawberry & Almond overnight oats are honestly one of the best things I’ve added to my morning routine and trust me, I don’t say that lightly. I’m Iris, and between getting Isabella, Emma, and Noah ready for school and making sure Henry has something decent to grab on his way out, mornings around here are… a lot. So when I landed on a breakfast that I could prep the night before, pack with real protein, and that my kids actually ask for? I was over the moon.

These oats check every box. They’re creamy, naturally sweet from fresh strawberries and a little maple syrup, and filling enough to keep you going until lunch. No cooking. No standing over the stove. Just mix, refrigerate, and wake up to breakfast already done. Ingredients For Your High-Protein Strawberry & Almond Oats

Here’s everything you need to make 4 servings. Simple, wholesome ingredients nothing hard to find.

  • 1 ripe medium banana (the riper, the sweeter great natural sweetener)
  • 1½ cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 cup whole-milk plain Greek yogurt (this is where a big chunk of protein comes from don’t skip it!)
  • ½ cup smooth natural almond butter, divided (¼ cup in the mix + 1 tablespoon per serving on top)
  • 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed (flaxmeal)
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (not quick oats they hold up better overnight)
  • 1 cup chopped fresh strawberries, plus more for garnish

Substitution notes:

  • No almond milk? Any milk works oat milk, whole milk, or even coconut milk.
  • Out of Greek yogurt? A thick coconut yogurt works for a dairy-free version.
  • Frozen strawberries work too just thaw them first if you prefer a softer texture, or mix them in frozen for a colder, slushier feel.
  • Peanut butter or cashew butter can replace almond butter just know the flavor will shift a little.

How To Make High-Protein Strawberry & Almond Overnight Oats

Step 1: Mash The Banana

Grab a large bowl and mash your banana with a fork until it’s smooth. A very ripe banana works best here those brown-spotted ones are sweeter and mash way more easily.

Step 2: Add The Wet Ingredients

Add the almond milk, Greek yogurt, ¼ cup of the almond butter, flaxseed, maple syrup, and salt to the bowl. Whisk everything together until smooth and fully combined.

The Greek yogurt is what makes this a high-protein breakfast it blends into the oat base really well and gives the whole thing that thick, creamy texture that makes overnight oats feel satisfying rather than sad and watery.

Step 3: Stir In Oats And Strawberries

Stir in the rolled oats and chopped strawberries. Make sure everything is evenly mixed so the oats absorb the liquid properly.

Step 4: Refrigerate Overnight

Cover the bowl (or divide into individual jars if you’re meal prepping) and refrigerate for at least 8 hours. This is the key step the oats need that time to soften and soak up all that flavor.

I usually make a full batch on Sunday night so we have breakfast ready through Wednesday morning. It genuinely makes the week easier.

Step 5: Serve And Top

Before serving, give everything a good stir. Then spoon into bowls or jars and top each serving with 1 tablespoon of almond butter.

Add extra fresh strawberries on top if you have them. It makes the whole thing look so much prettier which, yes, matters when you’re trying to get kids excited about breakfast.

How To Store Your Overnight Oats

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. I like using individual mason jars because you can just grab one and go in the morning.

Stir before each serving the oats will thicken up as they sit, and stirring loosens them back up.

Not recommended for freezing the texture of the strawberries and yogurt doesn’t hold up well after freezing and thawing.

If you want to thin them out a little before eating, just add a splash of almond milk and stir.

Variations To Try With This Recipe

These strawberry almond overnight oats are a great base but there’s so much room to make them your own.

  • Swap the fruit blueberries, raspberries, or sliced peaches all work beautifully here
  • Add a protein boost stir in a scoop of vanilla protein powder with the wet ingredients for even more protein per serving
  • Make it nut-free use sunflower seed butter instead of almond butter and swap almond milk for oat milk
  • Go chocolate add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder and use chocolate almond butter on top for a dessert-style version that still has solid nutrition
  • Add crunch top with a handful of granola, chopped almonds, or hemp seeds right before serving

Each serving has about 17g of protein, mostly from the Greek yogurt and almond butter. Add a scoop of protein powder if you want to push it even higher.

Yes peanut butter or cashew butter are both solid swaps. Peanut butter gives a richer, more classic flavor, while cashew butter is milder and a little creamier. The nutrition will be similar, though the flavor will be noticeably different from the original.
